We were able to sit down with Duke safety Jaylen Stinson fresh off his game-saving play at Northwestern. His performance earned him the ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors.
DFTB: Jaylen, walk us through that final defensive play in the Northwestern game. Where were you lined up? What did you see? And how did you react?
JAYLEN: I was lined up on the far left half of the field. It was 3rd and 1, and I saw the guy (Evan Hull) break the line of scrimmage. I was thinking, “Oh Lord, this is the last play,” so I had to lay my body on the line and go make a play. The hit really shocked me, and it took me a minute to realize that the ball actually came out.
DFBT: We’ve heard you’re a funny guy. Who is your favorite comedian, and what is your favorite bit by them?
JAYLEN: <Chuckles> Probably as of right now, I’d have to go with Druski. He has a lot of really funny skits on Instagram, so I’d have to go with him.
DFBT: What is your all-time favorite movie and why?
JAYLEN: The Rocky Series. It was my dad’s favorite movie series, and he always watched them with me. So it came to be my favorite as well.
DFBT: Being from Opelika, were you a hometown Auburn guy, or did you pull for that other team on the opposite side of the state?
JAYLEN: I was a hometown Auburn fan. It was a family tradition. All my family pulls for Auburn. I was a big Cam Newton fan.
DFBT: You switched your jersey number from 16 to 2 this year. What is the significance of number 2 to you?
JAYLEN: It’s special to me. My freshman year of high school, my head coach (Coach Speekman) gave me the number 2. That is when I transitioned to begin playing safety, which I’m playing right now. I feel like I really made a name for myself in high school, and I feel like it’s coming back now.
BONUS QUESTION (a follow up from 5 Deep with Jalon Calhoun)
DFBT: Is Jalon Calhoun the best gamer on the team?
JAYLEN: No.
